Teratogenic Drugs Used in Dermatology

  • When considering a drug for women of childbearing potential, the first fact to establish is its teratogenicity
  • Drugs contraindicated in pregnancy because of risk to the fetus are listed in Table 1.
  • Other known or suspected teratogens used in dermatology are listed in Table 2.

Note that the above lists may not be exhaustive. In many cases the exact risk is not known since no unified database is available. The overall rate of birth defects in the general population is 20-30/1000 births.
